Meet the Artist

Welcome to the artwork of Elizabeth A. Evans, an award winning formally trained painter who has been providing her special brand of art to a growing number of collectors and fans for over 30 years. As an artist, she is continually growing and exploring the world around her. She has produced a substantial body of work dealing with a variety of subject matter.

For the most part, her style can be classified as "representational", (as opposed to abstract). The subject matter is readily recognizable but the treatment is what makes her unique. We hope you enjoy your visit and find some images that you can directly relate to. Images that will speak to your soul

TRAINING & BACKGROUND

Elizabeth was Born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. . She enrolled at Montreal Museum of Fine Arts in 1962, and studied painting, drawing, sculpture, etching and design under the tutelage of Arthur Lismer (Group of Seven), Moe Reinblatt, Gerry Tondino, Guido Molinari and Jean Goguen. She also attended the Banff School of Fine Arts on Scholarship during the summer of 1963 where she studied painting under Gordon Smith of Vancouver and portrait painting under William Townsend of London, England. I

In her second summer at Banff, again on scholarship, she studied Advanced Painting under Gordon Adaskin of Winnipeg. She has been awarded a Senior Certificate in Painting from the University of Alberta.

So as you can see, she was a talented student and was mentored by some significant Canadian artists. In particular she befriended Arthur Lismer, a founding member of Canada's Group of Seven. He was her teacher and mentor at the Montreal Museum and had a significant impact on her ability to "see" the world.

AWARDS

Elizabeth was twice awarded the Martha Martin Scholarship for drawing, after completing her first and second years at Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. Twice awarded the Grumbacher Scholarship for painting as a result of her outstanding work at Banff. Other awards include: IBM Purchase Awards, 1975 and 1976; Royal Bank "Nature of Our Land" Television Awards, 1975-76.

She has also been chosen by UNICEF over a five year period to be included in their Xmas card collection. In 1995, her card was chosen to be made into a poster by UNICEF in Switzerland.

PERSONAL

Elizabeth lives in North Vancouver, B.C. Canada with her husband. She has 3 daughters and two dogs that keep her constantly busy. When she's not painting, you'll usually find her in one of her gardens busily tending to plants or flowers. She lives in a secluded area in the mountains and is constantly being inspired by her natural surroundings. She has an ongoing battle with a chipmunk who's decided he owns the property and will do what he likes, including digging up her plants and knocking over her flower pots. So far "Chippy" is clearly in charge. We'll see how it goes over the next few months.
